Australia has reopened borders to vaccinated skilled migrants and foreign students

nz shores consultationOn December 15 Australia has reopened borders to fully vaccinated holders of eligible visas holders, including skilled migrants and foreign students, without needing to apply for a travel exemption.

The original reopening date of 1st December was delayed by the emergence of the new Omicron variant. To be considered an eligible visa holder you must hold one of the below visas. Applicants who have applied for one of the visas, but it has not yet been granted, are not considered an eligible visa holder.

What vaccines are accepted?

Currently, the following vaccines and dosages are accepted for travel purposes. Two doses at least 14 days apart of:

  • AstraZeneca Vaxzevria
  • AstraZeneca Covishield
  • Pfizer/Biontech Comirnaty
  • Moderna Spikevax or Takeda
  • Sinovac Coronavac
  • Bharat Biotech Covaxin
  • Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (for 18-60 year olds)

Or one dose of:

  • Johnson & Johnson/ Janssen-Cilag COVID Vaccine.
