Skilled Migration occupation lists

Australia's skilled visa program is based on skilled occupation lists. These include occupations which are deemed in shortage in Australia, and for which overseas candidates with relevant skillsets are welcome.

What are Australia's skilled migration occupations lists?

Australia's skilled visa programs is based on the following skilled occupation lists:

They are subject to a regular review to reflect the current labour demand and address genuine skill shortages in Australia.

The Priority Migration Skilled Occupations List was also introduced in 2020 to aid with Australia's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regional skilled occupations lists

There are regional areas in Australia that have their own specific lists or requirements for skilled migration.

For instance, some regional areas in Australia have their own occupation lists called the "Regional Occupation List" (ROL) or "Regional Skilled Occupation List" (RSOL) that are separate from the national occupation lists such as the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). These regional occupation lists are designed to cater to the specific needs and priorities of those regional areas in terms of skilled migration.

The ROL or RSOL typically include occupations that are in demand or experiencing skill shortages in specific regional areas of Australia. The occupations on these lists may vary depending on the specific region and its economic and labor market conditions. The aim is to encourage skilled migration to regional areas and address skill shortages in those regions, while also promoting regional economic growth and development.

The occupations included on the ROL or RSOL are generally related to key industries and sectors that are important for the regional economy, such as agriculture, mining, healthcare, construction, and education. Examples of occupations that may be included on a regional occupation list could include farm managers, chefs, early childhood teachers, engineers, healthcare professionals, and tradespersons, among others.

In addition, there are some visa subclasses, such as the Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional (Provisional)) visa and the Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional)) visa, which are specifically for regional areas in Australia. These visas have their own requirements, including specific occupation lists, to encourage skilled migration to regional areas and address skill shortages in those regions.

Regional occupation lists and requirements can change over time

Requirements are subject to updates and revisions by the Australian government. It is recommended consult a qualified immigration consultant or a registered migration agent for accurate and current information related to regional skills shortage lists in Australia.
